インドネシア 市場へ
ハイランド地方への日帰り旅に、カトリンの案内ででかけることにした。マハウ火山への片道1時間の登山の後（気持ちよかった！）、Saturday Marketへ。竹の筒の中には、米、肉、野菜、ハーブ類などを入れて売っている。これを斜めにたてかけて下で火を燃やすと、竹の中までは焦げずに中の料理ができあがるのだとか。鍋代わりに竹を使っているわけ。でもここから食べ物を取り出すときって、どうやるんだろう。結構難しそうな気がするのだけれど、、。
さて、ちょいとグロイお話。ハイランド地方は、この間も書いたように中国系（ミナハサとよばれている）。机以外のよつ足は何でも食べるというだけあって、この市場にも、犬、パイソン（蛇）、こうもり！！などがたくさん売られていた。茶色い犬が一番おいしいのだそうで、売り場の裏手でバーナーで毛を焼いて黒こげにした状態で売る。ちょうど一匹犬が連れてこられて焼かれるところだったので、思わず目をそむけてしまった、、、。
後でハイランド地方出身のダイブマスターにきいたところ、「前は犬も食べたけれど、体がすごく暑くなるから最近は食べてない。かなり辛口のカレーっぽい感じで食べるんだ。でもこうもりはすごくおいしいよ。とくに尾が白いこうもりなんて、ひゅ〜ってくらい旨い。鍋みたいにして食べる」とのこと。
最後の日々に一度だけ、３０万都市のマナドのスーパーに入ったら、こうもりとねずみの肉が豚や鶏とならんで売られていた。たしかに気持ち悪い！でも、オランダからきていた女性と話していた時、「あななたちはクジラを食べるんでしょ！」と顔をしかめられた。夫は実はクジラを食べるのに反対論者なんだが、咄嗟に「Yeah. You eat cows!」と言い返したのにはおそれいった。その女性のパートナーが、「それぞれの食文化てものがあるからね」で落ち着いたんだけどね。なかなか微妙な問題だ、、。
こうもり。羽は食べないらしい。この裏手に生きたこうもりをつるしてある檻があった。
