インドネシア バンカ島２
バンカでは、毎日夕方になると笑顔が可愛い女の子ニニがおやつをなにかしら作ってくれる。ここのナガサリは絶品だったし、白玉粉をこねたような中に黒砂糖の塊を入れて丸めたら茹でて（中の黒砂糖がとける）、回りにココナッツシュレッドをまぶしたものとか、パンニックというパンケーキの中にココナッツをシナモン風味で甘くしたものをくるんだものとか、いろいろ。食堂のすぐ裏手に小さなキッチンがあり、子どもたちも私もよくのぞきにいっていた。
パンニックの緑色は何でつけているのかきいた時、ニニがみせてくれたのはパンダンパウダー（笹の葉の粉末）だった。
ここのシェフの名前はきかなかったけれど、いつも可愛いTシャツを着た笑顔の素敵なおじちゃまで、英語がまったくわからない。それでも私たちが食に興味があるのがわかるのか、「どうだい、おいしいかい？」という顔をして、私たちのテーブルの近くに寄ってくる。「サンガット エナック！」（すごくおいしい）というと満足したように笑っている。そのうち、料理の名前をおしえてくれたり、キッチンに招き入れて作っているところを見せてくれたりするように。「バパ マサック バグースヤ〜」（おじさま、とっても料理が上手）というと照れたような顔。海辺に座って気持ちよさそうに海と山を眺めていたり、長い棒をもって木の葉をついて集めたり（これは掃除しているのだ）。急ぐということがない。こういう暮らしというのもいいなあ、、。
キッチンで。一緒にいるのはたぶん彼の娘さん？
