インドネシア ダイビングに夢中な男たち
バンカと最後に泊まったマナドのMUREXというところとは、この地方のダイビング界の「ドン」ドクター・バトゥナ（インドネシア人）が所有するリゾート。たまたま昨夏、夫と息子だけマナドに泊まった時に、ひょんなことからドクターに気に入られ、私邸に招かれて、彼の友人たちと食事をしたとのことで、今回もとても厚遇してもらった。ドクターがアメリカでダイビングでおきやすい事故についての医療を学んでいることもあり、もちろんここの海がすごい！ということもあって、とくにヨーロッパからダイビング気違いのような男たちが集まっている。
バンカで一緒だったのは、フランス人のドミニク、一人旅。寡黙な彼はエールフランスに勤める建築家。いつもすごいカメラをもって写真をとっている。１６歳からはじめて、３０年で、なんと３０００タンクもぐっているし、写真も１５０００枚あるのだとか。仕事しながら1年で１００タンクって怪物だ〜。彼によると世界で一番のお気に入りはここの海とスーダンなんだとか。バンカでもマナドでも一緒だったのは、世界を流れあるいた末にカナダに移住したというドイツ人のマイク、これまた一人旅。バルセロナの獣医のジョアン。超美貌の独身男性40代後半くらい、一人旅。1週間liveaboard（船で移動しながらダイビングしてまわる）でジョアンと一緒だったマイクは「彼はものすごい美貌の男だけれど、複雑なんだよね、、」といっていた。ジョアンもまた、毎日３本ずつひたすら潜り続けていた。「ジョアンと一緒に潜っていただけで幸せ、、」なんていったら、バディくんでいた夫に悪いか、、。
