中国からのお客さま
先週の土曜日、所属している国際交流関係の団体の紹介で、中国から研修にきている男性２人が我が家に1泊とまりにきてくれました。とても感じがよい２０代の王（ワン）さんと張（チャン）さん。古民家や、日本の現代アートを一緒に見にいったり、夜は一緒に料理を作ったり。地元の友人たち１０人も夕食には合流して、彼らが持ち寄ってくれた料理も食卓に並び、大ご馳走。
日本にきて３週間という２人なので、少し中華よりの日本食かなあ、、と思い、作ったのが、鶏をロール状にして蒸したもの＆きゅうり＆ネギたっぷりに、ソース３種（手作り甜麺醤、ピーナッツバターをベースにしたソース、タイ風の激辛ソース＝ウチで育てたハバネロペッパーが入っている！）添え。サンフランシスコで有名だった（今はどうなったんだろう）中華料理レストランのオーナーシェフのレシピに近い形で作った春巻（バジルとかナッツとかも入り、ちょっとエスニック風）、手羽先の煮物（八角と、豆腐ようの汁が隠し味）、トマトと大葉をバルサミコベースであえて作ったちょっと和風テイストのブルスケッタ、ゆかたん寿司（我が家特製のスモークサーモンとアボカドは必ず入る、赤梅酢で調味した手こね寿司風）、あずき＆抹茶入りミルクプリン。 他にも作れるようにスタンバイしていた料理はあれど、おしゃべりが中心だったので、かなり料理が余り、３日くらいは残り物が食卓にあがっていたかな、、、。
１６人で、飲むわ食べるわ、結局１時すぎまで客は帰らず。翌朝、眠い目をこすっておきてきた王さんと張さん。「あんなにたくさんの日本人といろいろ話ができて、ほんと楽しかったです！」私たちも彼らをダシに、友達たくさん呼べて、これまた楽しかったです。子どもたちも「すっご〜く楽しかった。また外国のお客さまよぼうね」とのこと。
以前にも中国からの留学生がウチに来たり、私たちも上海にその後彼を訪ねたりしています。日中の外交問題がニュースによく出てくるけれど、個人レベルでの交流が進めば、決して相手の国をむやみに憎むなんてできるはずはないと思うのです。以前に泊まってもらったタイ人の家族と今もお互いに交流が続いていることから、子どもたちにとってタイが遠い国ではないように（タイ語がきこえると「懐かしい響きだ〜」と娘はいいます）、中国もまた、子どもたちにとって親しみのもてる国になってきたかな？
